JAN - DEC

Light spinning tackle (15–30g) with fluorocarbon leader, soft plastics or surface poppers.

Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)
The most respected inshore fish on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, and arguably the most technically demanding to target consistently. Sea Bass are intelligent, cautious, and highly attuned to conditions — water clarity, tidal movement, light levels, and baitfish presence all influence their behaviour hour to hour. In the Ebro Delta, they work the tidal channels and river mouth at night, using current seams to intercept mullet and eels drifting downstream. Along the open coast they hold tight to rocky structure, working surge zones where prey gets disoriented. The most effective method in the delta is soft plastic lures — paddle tails and shad profiles on light jig heads, worked slowly through the current. On the open coast, surface lures at dawn and dusk produce fish when Bass are actively hunting the shoreline. They fight with direction changes rather than raw speed, using their broad flanks against the current. A 60cm fish here is a good fish. Anything over 75cm is exceptional and earned.
